Commercial Pilots Licence

A Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL) is the qualification you will require in order to take up flying as a career. Should you wish to fly for an airline in the future, a CPL is required in order to obtain your ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence).


Valid PPL

Valid Class I Flight Medical Certificate

At least 18 years of age

General Radio Licence

Night Rating

200 hours total flying time, of which:

  • 100 hours must be as Pilot in Command
  • 20 hours must be x-country flying
    • Including 1 x day 300nm cross country flight with at least 2 landings away from base
  • 10 hours Night Flying
    • Including 1x night cross country flight of at least 150nm, with two landings away from base
  • 20 hours Instrument Training

Theoretical Exams by CAA (8 subjects)

  • Aircraft Technical and General, and Principles of Flight
  • Air Law and Operations
  • Flight Planning and Performance
  • Human Performance
  • Instruments
  • Navigation (General and Plotting)
  • Meteorology
  • Radio Aids
  • Radio Telephony (General Radio Licence)

Flight test with a Designated Examiner (DE)
