Instrument Rating


  • A valid Night Rating
  • A valid PPL
  • A valid Class I medical certificate
  • You must have at least 50 hours cross-country time as pilot-in-command
    • At least 10 hours must be in the category of aircraft for which the Instrument Rating is sought
  • You must complete at least 40 hours Instrument Training under dual instruction
    • 20 hours of which may be completed on an approved FSTD (Flight Simulation Training Device)
  • The Theoretical Examinations must be passed (7 subjects)
  • A flight test with a Grade I or II flight instructor must be passed
